Richard & Kym Owen
Funeral Director & Owners
Richard has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer for 25 years, but has worked in the industry for 27 years. After the loss of their infant son, Richard and Kym were very aware of the compassion and professionalism needed during the difficult time of the loss of a loved one. Richard and Kym, who is a substitute teacher for Wawasee Community Schools, are very active in their community and their church. Richard is a member of the Syracuse / Wawasee Chamber of Commerce where he serves as vice president, the Wawasee Camp of the Gideons International in Syracuse where he also serves as vice president, the Indiana Funeral Directors Associaion where he serves on the Board of Directors and District 2 Director and the Lakeland Kiwanis in North Webster where he formerly served on the Board of Directors. Kym serves on the board of the Wawasee Camp of the Gideon's auxiliary. They have 3 children - Mrs. Christopher (Kristen) Coy, Alex (Autumn) Owen, and Mrs. Eric (Katie) Cockrill, who assists with the daily operations. They also have 2 granddaughters and 1 grandson. Richard's goal is to give back to the community that has been so supportive to him and his family.

Dawn Calvelage
Funeral Director
Dawn Calvelage has been a Kosciusko County resident since 1985, moving to Warsaw after graduating from Ball State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and Criminal Justice. Dawn worked for the Kosciusko County Division of Family & Children's Services until 2000 when she moved to Arizona to attend Mortuary School. In 2002 she graduated from Mortuary School with an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Mortuary Science. Dawn completed her one year internship at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse, where she and her husband lived for one year. Dawn obtained her Indiana Funeral Director's License in 2003 and also holds an Indiana Insurance License. In November 2005 she took a position with the Owen Family Funeral Home upon the opening of their Syracuse facility. Dawn is married to Douglas, who is a Senior Quality Engineer with Zimmer, Inc. They have four children and five grandchildren. They are members of the North Webster Church of God.

Katie Cockrill
Funeral Director/ Grief Facilitator
Kathryn "Katie" J. (Owen) Cockrill joined the firm October 2008 as funeral director intern and received her Funeral Directors license November 2009. Katie is the youngest daughter of Richard & Kym Owen and is a 2007 graduate of Wawasee High School.
Katie and her husband, Eric, were married on December 29, 2007. Katie graduated from Ivy Tech School of Mortuary Science, Indianapolis, with an Associates Degree in Applied Science August 2008. Katie serves as one of seven members on the Board of Advisors for the Ivy Tech School of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis.
Katie will work directly with the public in planning and designing funerals for individual families and facilitating the aftercare grief program at the funeral home.
Katie has been working with other support groups and leaders to learn the skills necessary in leading the grief support group. These meetings take place on the first Thursday of each month at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd. 13 & CR 500N, North Webster. Each meeting will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Eric Cockrill
Funeral Director
Eric Cockrill joined the firm in October 2009 as a funeral director intern and recieved his Funeral Directors license November 2010. Eric is a 2007 graduate of Wawasee High School and is the son of Jennifer Baughman & Gene Cockrill.
Eric & Katie were married on December 29, 2007. Eric graduated from Ivy Tech School of Mortuary Science, Indianapolis, with an Associates Degree in Applied Science August 2009.
Eric will work with all aspects of the funeral business but will specialize in preparation, cosmetizing and restoration.
Eric is currently serving in the United States Marine Corp. He completed his basic training July 1, 2011 and continued training in California. He now home and serves as a USMC reservist.

Penny Plikerd
Secretary
Penny was director and teacher of Oswego Nursery School for 10 years prior to joining Eastlund & Mishler Funeral Homes in 1997 where she continued to work for 12 years. She joined the Owen Family Funeral Home staff in September 2009.
Penny is lifelong Syracuse resident and is married to Ken Plikerd. She has two grown children - Ben (Kristi) Plikerd and Mrs. Jason (Kariann) Yotter and 5 grandchildren all of Syracuse.
Penny is an active member of Syracuse Church of God where she leads a ladies evening bible study, and serves on the Syracuse Cemetery Board.
When asked why she works at the Funeral Home she responds "I feel that working with the families has given me a ministry to serve God and my community."

Kristen & Christopher Coy
Assistant / Greeter
Kristen is the oldest daughter or Richard & Kym Owen. She is a 2002 graduate of Wawasee High School and attended Goshen College. She is a stay at home mom and homeschools her children.
Christopher "CJ" is a 2001 graduate of Concord High School and graduated from Vincennes University with a degree in Landscape Management & is the owner of "A Taste of Nature" landscaping company. Christopher currently is a student at Purdue University working towards a degree in Turf Management along with his landscaping degree.
They were married in July 2003 and have three children, Mickenna, McKallie, & Carter. They assist at the funeral home as needed.

Alex & Autumn Owen
Assistant / Greeter
Alex is the son of Richard & Kym Owen. He is a 2005 graduate of Wawasee High School. He is employed full time at Forest River in Goshen and the owner of "Alexander's Lawn Care Service".
Autumn (Faulkner) Owen is a 2006 graduate of Bethel Christian Acadamy. She is employed at Greencroft Retirement Home as a CNA.
They were married in September 2007 and assist at the funeral home when needed.

Paula Markley
Secretarial Staff
Paula Markley retired from the Wawasee Community School Corporation after teaching fourth grade for 33 years. Paula assists in the office on a part time basis as needed and helps coordinate the annual Holiday Memorial Service. Paula has been a lifelong member of the North Webster Church of God where she is involved in many activities. She enjoys reading and loves to write children's stories.

Greeters
Hinke (Henny) Butt is a wife, mother, and grandmother. She and her husband, Burton, are co-owners of Butt and Timmons Construction. They are members of the North Webster Church of God and the Gideons International. They have four children and several grandchildren. Henny also cleans homes part time.
